Many freelance writers come from diverse writing backgrounds as novelists, poets, and screenwriters. While this type of writing experience can be helpful for starting out as a freelance writer, it may not directly correspond with the types of writing jobs available on the freelance job market.

Often, freelance writers are hired to write web copy like blogs and copy for web pages. They may also be hired to produce email newsletters, social media posts, magazine articles, ebooks, and press releases. There are some creative opportunities available, but it is not likely that you'll make a freelance career out of writing poetry alone.
